I am enjoying the book I talked about last time, "The Real Meaning of the Zodiac". I grew up hearing and sometimes reading about the zodiac. These were just pictures I associated with astrology and the horoscope. Early on I learned that the horoscope stuff of predicting the future or assigning significance to happenings because those distant stars were in the right place was lunacy to me. I disregarded the constellations as pagan stories from the Greeks and Romans.
Reading how the original meanings are telling the story of the coming Christ first as our Redeemer and then the King of Kings is wonderful. If I shared everything it teaches then I would probably violate copy right laws. So I will pick one thing that stuck out last night.
In the Decan, or house, of Sagittarius, there is Lyra, the Harp. The purpose of the lyre is to give "Praise for the Conqueror." As a believer I recognize this to refer to Jesus Christ as the conqueror of sin, death, and one day the kingdoms of this fallen world. Like all constellations, the primary stars have their own names. Many of which have the same meaning from the Middle East to China to the Native American cultures. Vega is the name of one of the stars in Lyra.
Vega means "He Shall Be Exalted." Within the constellation designed as a sign to tell us to give praise to the conqueror of sin, one of its star's name reiterates this expression. I am amazed how from the beginning of man on this planet we have the saving message of the One who created all things staring down at us nightly. He is a great and merciful Lord.
